BCB Medical’s Impact Data Supports the Development of the Wellbeing Services County

BCB Medical is a software company specializing in the collection and analysis of clinical data. It collaborates closely with the Kanta-Häme Wellbeing Services County, known as Oma Häme. Together, they are developing Oma Häme’s operations using digital service solutions and effectiveness assessments based on the data collected by those services.

Oma Häme operates in social and healthcare services, as well as rescue services, across 11 municipalities. These municipalities are grouped into the Riihimäki, Hämeenlinna, and Forssa regions. Oma Häme uses several solutions from BCB Medical, such as MyHealth platform. This platform integrates BCB Medical’s digital services, streamlining operations and improving the customer experience within the wellbeing services county. From the customer’s perspective, digital service pathways clarify the different stages of service and make them more accessible. For staff, these digital solutions reduce the time needed for processing customer questionnaires and in-person interactions.

“The digital pathways inform the customer about what will happen next and who to contact. Through them, the customer can also fill out forms, provide information, and communicate securely with a professional. The goal is to reduce physical appointments and inquiries,” explains Hanna Narsakka, Development Manager at Oma Häme.

In addition to MyHealth platform, the collaboration includes specific solutions like the BCB Generic Questionnaires service for pre-information forms and other surveys. Other individual services are also used for basic healthcare needs, such as PEF measurements, and monitoring blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Artificial Intelligence as a Tool for Data Analytics

BCB Medical’s expertise in data analytics is a cornerstone of the collaboration. Oma Häme’s digital service system collects data on the steps and outcomes of customers’ digital pathways. This data allows for detailed and accurate assessment of operational effectiveness, enabling precise targeting of development measures.

“One of BCB Medical’s key strengths in the field of data analytics is their expertise and understanding of impact-based operations. Their solutions provide us with data about the customer journey and treatment outcomes. We can integrate this data into a larger data model, which helps us assess the effectiveness of our own operations,” says Katja Antikainen, Director of Data and Impact at Oma Häme.

Artificial intelligence has also become a significant tool in data analytics. In the collaboration between Oma Häme and BCB Medical, it is used to better target services for different customer groups. AI enables customer segmentation with unprecedented efficiency, and its use is set to expand.

“Customer segmentation involved processing tens of millions of data rows, which would have been extremely challenging with traditional methods. Now, an AI algorithm completes the task in about two minutes. In the future, AI will also be used to highlight various risk factors more easily for both professionals and customers through digital pathways,” Antikainen elaborates.

Open-Minded Innovation

For Oma Häme, the cooperation with BCB Medical has gone very well. Narsakka considers the company to be very receptive to new ideas. BCB Medical’s open-minded approach broadens Oma Häme’s perspective and helps turn potential ideas into practical implementations.

“BCB Medical is a development-oriented organization. They have many highly skilled professionals who immediately understand what we want. They’re ready to innovate solutions and come up with ideas we might not have thought of ourselves. And if we have new ideas, they quickly grasp them and can develop them into products for our use,” Narsakka praises.

The collaboration between the parties also runs smoothly overall. According to Narsakka, this is reflected in feedback from Oma Häme’s staff. At Oma Häme, BCB Medical’s experts are practically seen as part of the internal team.

“It’s really pleasant to work with BCB Medical. We’ve also received very positive feedback from our development team: issues are taken seriously and approached with a solution-focused mindset, while always considering the customer’s perspective. The solutions are then produced easily, quickly, and using agile development methods. We test first, and if it doesn’t work, we adjust.”

The cooperation originally began with BCB Medical delivering a quality registry service to Oma Häme. Since then, the collaboration has expanded and deepened into its current form. Antikainen anticipates the partnership will continue for a long time.

“We’ve been able to build an amazing overall package with BCB Medical. This system feeds data into our data lake, and they are involved in developing the data model for both our wellbeing services county and on a national level. There’s certainly plenty of work ahead for a long time to come.”
