Orthopaedics

Orthopaedic care covers many different patient pathways, from planned joint replacement and spine surgery to fracture care, upper limb conditions and long-term follow-up. BCB Orthopaedic Suite brings these pathways into one connected data environment, helping healthcare professionals collect structured clinical data, follow patient outcomes and use reliable insights to improve care.

The suite supports a broad range of orthopaedic areas, including hip and knee replacement surgery, arthroscopy, spine surgery, fracture care, upper limb care, shoulder care, foot and ankle care, and elbow care.

BCB’s orthopaedic Clinical Information Management Systems are designed and developed in close collaboration with orthopaedic specialists. Their use has also been described in scientific studies and publications, demonstrating how structured clinical data can support treatment decisions, quality monitoring and healthcare development.

BCB’s Joint Replacement registry and BCB Spine registry are used in all Finnish public hospitals treating these patient groups. For more than a decade, they have supported orthopaedic teams with structured and reliable data for daily treatment decisions, outcome follow-up, quality monitoring and continuous improvement.

BCB Orthopaedic Suite connects data from clinical work, hospital systems and patients into one structured view. This gives orthopaedic teams a clearer understanding of each patient’s pathway and helps organisations monitor outcomes across procedures, units and follow-up points.

How BCB Orthopaedic Suite works

Giving clinicians a complete view of each orthopaedic patient

  • BCB CIMS collect structured data during surgery, outpatient visits and follow-up.
  • The data is brought into one clear view, giving healthcare professionals easier access to treatment history, outcomes, complications, patient-reported information and follow-up status.
  • This supports different patient groups with different care pathways and follow-up schedules.

Seamlessly connecting orthopaedic data

  • BCB Integrations connects the Orthopaedic Suite with operating room systems, laboratory systems and other hospital information systems.
  • Relevant data is transferred automatically into the BCB platform, reducing manual work and improving data consistency.

Bringing in the patient perspective

  • With MyHealth questionnaires, healthcare professionals receive patient-reported information on symptoms, wellbeing, function and quality of life before and after treatment.
  • Questionnaires such as the Oxford Hip Score (OHS) for hip replacement patients and the Neck Disability Index (NDI) replacement patients can be automatically activated for the patient and transferred to the correct BCB Clinical Information Management System.
  • The response rate in MyHealth questionnaires has been demonstrated to be up to 90%*

Turning orthopaedic data into insights

  • BCB Dataroom helps organisations make better use of orthopaedic data collected from multiple sources.
  • It can support faster analysis of outcomes, treatment patterns, patient groups and care quality — turning complex data into clear questions and reliable insights for clinical development, operational planning and research.

Together, these connected solutions help orthopaedic teams streamline data collection, strengthen outcome monitoring and turn everyday care data into practical insights that support better decisions.

The main mission is to improve the treatment of children’s fractures. I believe that if more hospitals in Finland and other countries adopted the KIDS Fracture Tool, it would be of great benefit to patients, hospital staff, and the entire paediatric surgical community
